Pandora’s Water Bottle: A must-read Audubon article

Tuesday’s Natural Health: Worried about all those hormone-affecting, hidden chemical compounds in water bottles, baby bottles, our water supply, cosmetics, shampoos, kitchenware and more? Also worried that most information out there about BPAs and these other chemicals is either too heavy, dry or contradictory to understand? My hand raises on both counts.
There’s hope in the March-April issue of Audubon magazine. (Hey, any article that begins with an anecdote about “alligators with stunted penises” grabs my attention). This month’s Audubon includes an excellent article written by Susan McGrath about all the nasty endocrine-disrupting chemicals in our daily lives that are literally changing animal species before our eyes and potentially impacting human health, especially babies, more than we even realize at this point. The piece is not too long, easy to read and packed with practical information about what you can do to avoid these chemicals to the greatest extent possible without driving yourself — and those around you — crazy, including ditching the vinyl shower curtains, nixing anything used in your home or on your body that lists “fragrance” as an ingredient, and avoiding using plastics in the microwave.
